Hijacking

Terrorism is of different kinds and it assumes different forms. It is indulged in by anti-social gangs. Their motives are completely mercenary. They may indulge in random shooting or indulge in sensational robberies. There is also highly organized terrorism for political purposes. In order to gain their political ends, such terrorists create terror by blowing up big buildings or by planting transistor bombs and other explosive devices in crowed places.

)

Such organized terrorism often takes the form of hijacking. It is piracy in the sky; lives of innocent men, women and children in the captured airplane are thus endangered. Hijacking has become a world-wide phenomenon. Today it is not restricted to any one country or organization.

Hijacking is a complex phenomenon. No action or organization can attempt to deal with it alone. Nations of the world should co-operate in tackling this problem. There should be mutual as well as multinational agreements in this matter as there are in other matters. Nations and organization having truck with the hijackers should be strongly denounced. There should be no security lapses at the airport. All loopholes should be plugged. Full use should be made of metal detectors and other electronic devices. Luggage should be carefully scrutinized, and in this respect no differentiation should be made between ordinary persons and V.I.P’s.

The terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 in the United States led to a great increase in concern about airline safety and security with regard to terrorism. Airport security seemed to be the most visible site for implementing new security measures post 9/11. Moreover, in the case of airport security, the additional measures were both too late, and necessary. However, in the 1970s, hijackers were content to simply threaten passengers and pilots and kill off one or two while sitting on the tarmac in some developing nation until their demands were met. Without the free and easy access that had returned to aircraft after the heyday of 1970s hijackings had passed, perhaps the hijackers on 9/11 might have returned to the modus operandi of those earlier days.
(

Although there have been hijackings from 1931 to the present, their peak period was 1968-72. During that period there were 326 hijacking attempts worldwide, or one every 5.6 days. These included 137 attempts by individuals who boarded flights in the United States, or one such attempt every 13.3 days. Newspapers, television, and other mass media constantly carried stories about aircraft hijackings, and it was often suggested that the motivation to hijack planes spread from individual to individual as a result of the media coverage.
(

Hijackers are desperate terrorists and great tact is needed in dealing with them. In the beginning skilled negotiators should negotiate with them. Negotiations should be long lasting till the atmosphere begins to tell on their nerves, as it does with the passengers. When the right time is ready, some minor concessions may be made as face saving devices. Usually there is surrender after that. In this way many innocent lives are saved and the guilty are also punished.
(
http://www.fortfreedom.org/w06.htm)
Alternatively, well-trained commandos may storm the airplane, but they should do so with lightning speed so that the hijackers are taken completely by surprise. Then they can be easily arrested. But this technique is full of dangers. Terrorists can go to any extent. They may even blow up the airplane or shoot innocent men, women and children. Hence full safety measures must be taken in dealing with them.

Final draft

Chemical Engineering

The four major engineering fields consist of electrical, mechanical, civil, and chemical engineering. Normally, chemical engineers concern themselves with the chemical processes that turn raw materials into valuable products. Of these, chemical engineers are the less in number. The depth of scientific and technical knowledge used in the chemical engineering occupation has caused some to express the view that the chemical engineer is the universal engineer. Regardless of a title that suggests an occupation composed of slight specialists, chemical engineers are actually extremely all-around and able to handle a large range of technical problems. It is the chemical engineer alone who uses the enormous and powerful science of chemistry to solve a world of problems. On the other hand, chemical engineers are the highest paid of the major four, on average. (http://www.pafko.com/history/h_whatis.html)
Chemical engineering evolved from two main roots. The earlier was industrial chemistry, in which the work of the chemical engineer emerged from what was previously done by a team of chemists and a mechanical engineer. The other main root came around because of the great innovations from the US, which consisted of a connected approach to unit operations. These were physical separations such as absorbtion, distillation and extraction in which the principles of mass transfer, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer were combined in equipment design. The basics of the modern field of chemical engineering were laid out during the regeneration, when experimentation and the inquiring of accepted scientific theories became prevalent. This period saw the development of many new chemical processes, such as those for sulfuric acid (for fertilizers and textile treatment) and alkali (for soap). The atomic theories of John Dalton and Amedeo Avogadro, developed in the early 1800's, became an important theoretical support for both chemistry and chemical engineering. In the twentieth century chemical engineers were employed in increasing numbers to design new and more well-organized ways to process chemicals and chemical products. In the US, chemical engineers were especially important in the expansion of petroleum-based fuels for the automotive industry. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_chemical_engineering)
The achievements of chemical engineers from large scale production of plastics, antibodies (including penicillin), and synthetic rubbers to the development of high octane gasoline have greatly affected our daily lives. (
http://www.eng.uwo.ca/people/aray/CHENG10.pdf)
Chemical engineers rely on their knowledge of mathematics and science particularly chemistry to overcome technical problems safely and economically. They use and apply their engineering knowledge to solve any technical challenges they may come upon. Their capability is also applied in the areas of law, publishing, education, finance, and medicine, as well as in many other fields that require technical training. (
http://www.princetonreview.com/Careers.aspx?cid=33)
Moreover, we conclude that important personal characteristics for the chemical engineer are objectivity, acurraccy and firmness. Chemical engineers should be inquisitive, inquiring, open minded, creative, and flexible, with problem solving ability. To be aggressive in the job market, a master of chemistry, a mixture of science knowledge, are necessary. Chemical engineering major is developing day by day and it is the best choice to get into nowadays due to the circumstances we’re facing and due to the development of this major which is considered as universal engineering.

Porsche 911 Turbo VS Bugatti

Nowadays several wealthy high classed people prefer having sports cars such as Ferrari, Porsche, and Bugatti. There are a lot of differences between each car mentioned. There are differences in power, size, and design and in the price itself. In this essay I will discuss the similarities and differences between the Bugatti and the Porsche 911 Turbo.

There are a couple of similarities between the Bugatti and the Porsche 911 Turbo. The first similarity is that both of them are popular and fashionable cars which high classed people prefer to buy. The second similarity is both of them are sport cars. Thirdly, the Bugatti and Porsche 911 were both manufactured in Europe and have only 2 seats.

Although there are similarities, there are many differences between these two cars as well. The first difference is that the Bugatti is more expensive. It costs $1.6 million. On the other hand the Porsche costs $143,800 (http://www.porsche.com/international/models/911/911-turbo/). Secondly, the Bugatti can reach from 0 - 60 in 2.5 seconds but the Porsche can reach it in 3.6 seconds (http://Autoblog.com/category/porsche). The third difference is that the torque of the Bugatti is 952 pound feet (http://Bugatti-configurator.com) and the Porsche torque is 457 pound feet.

From the information provided above, the Bugatti is more powerful than the Porsche 911 as well as in the design it is superior, but from my own point of view most of the people who are willing to get one of those two cars will go for the Porsche 911 because of the high price of the Bugatti and since Porsche 911 has the features and requirements that any will require to purchase such cars.

Reading Summary Assessment

Summary

An upsetting condition is facing China, where the rate of women who commit suicide is one in every 4 minutes. The most common areas where women commit suicide are the rural areas because of the poisons available there, as approximately 150,000 women succeed in committing suicide and most of them are from the rural areas.
Head of the suicide prevention project, Xu Rong is in charge for such conditions ands she’s working for these suicides is the arranged marriage where women are forced to marry men that they don’t like.
Divorce isn’t the best solution for people who are married with arranged marriage because it causes economical problems to the family itself, so eventually they commit suicide because they wont be able to solve their problems. As a consequence the rate of women committing suicide will reduce slowly, and men wont have enough women as a percentage to be equivalent and that will cause many problems in the country such as prostitution and abduction.
A couple of courses were arranged for women by Xu Rong to determine the future of china’s women, such as cooking, marriage laws and other personal life experiences courses have been arranged as well to give them confidence in themselves.

Main idea

The article is mainly talking about committing suicide in China and how it is seriously increasing with high numbers and most of these women are from rural areas and their main reason for such suicide is to advertise their sense of irritation.

Comment

From my point of view, it’s bad to know that the Republic of China, one of greatest nations world wide, is losing 150,000 of their women yearly, and since women are having alternative positions with men they have to solve this problem as soon as they can by managing some jobs for women and by that the rate of committing suicide will decrease and the life style of china will be developed.
